Not Worth It

Over the past few years I have learned not to partake in arguments that I know I cannot change on a personal level.

I have had people pick arguments with me ranging from “Why do you choose to vote for President Obama?” to “Why do you choose to put African American as the ethnic choice on applications?”  These are arguments that people seem to carry on and on about due to whatever personal conflicts they have dwelling within themselves.

Just asking a question why does it matter to you what I think and why I do the things I do.  Is it effecting your every day living and your current situation?”  Honestly, I would prefer a 3rd term President Obama over any of the presidential candidates that are currently running.  Despite the fact what people say about my skin color, I am a person living in color, I am still considered a minority through all bystander eyes. So get over it and get over your opinion.

I also choose not to partake in arguments that are misleading and seem to be based on opinions more than facts.  Take for example earlier this week a LT COL decided to call the president a “pussy”on live national television.  I simply stated a questioning statement to the group of people that found it hilarious, “Hmm, I wonder if he received any backlash for his comment.”  Someone decided to challenge me by saying “Oh, why do you think that, because it is a white man saying it about a black man?”  I simply replied, “No, I did not think anything about color, it is because someone is saying something about the POTUS in a very hostile manner. In situations like that you do not know what people’s intentions are and what there actions will be in the future.” Come to  find out, the gentleman was suspended from FOX news because that is not the type of behavior they want to portray to the world and, although, Stacey Dash’s negative commentary about the President was not aired she was still suspended as well. This is a prime example that I cannot stop racism but I can influence others to admit there is racism and they do not have to be racist.

See people that like to argue are usually hot heads and do not carefully depict the points they would like to make which causes them to ramble or lead to more impromptu thoughts. I don’t want to argue with you. It’s a pointless disagreement.

The third reason I choose not partake in arguments is because 9 times out of ten it is it is concerning an issue that I cannot contribute immediate change, such as politics and religion.  The only way I can contribute to politics is by voting for the candidate that I think will get the job done.  With religion I can only introduce a person to the concept of salvation and receiving Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, it is because it is a self decision and a self journey.  I did my job by spreading the Word! I cannot force my opinion and beliefs on others.

This is why the controversy in the world does not affect me the way that it does most others. The things I can change is assisting a man who’s losing his wife to cancer in choosing the perfect angelic gift, I can assist others in making their dreams reality through inspiration and motivation, I can assist someone in weight loss, I can change if the homeless receive dinner or have money, I can console someone in their time of need, I can help in disciplining the youth to make better decisions, I can help school students make better grades in school, etc.  These are the things I can help change.

If my degree that I am so vigorously working on, my military skills, and most of all the Holy Spirit just so leads me to a political or leadership position I will contribute and attempt to change policies and procedures to the best of my ability and as I see fit to whatever the situation may be.

Bottom line is people are going to believe what they want to believe and argue what they want to argue.  As long as you know the facts, why argue? There are way too many issues that we as people can change that will directly affect us and others around us.  So let’s start there first!

  1. It’s funny that you posted this because I am having a huge issue within my family right now. So much so it makes my stomach turn. They will not hear the truth and I am at a loss as to how to help him. The not knowing how to help him kills me! But, I must let go, pray that he will find the truth in his own way, and just let it go. It is not good for me to worry about something I cannot change. Thanks hun! 😉

No problem, I appreciate the fact you read my blog. My contact e-mail is on the homepage if you ever need someone to talk to. I have had my share of worrying and arguing and at the end of the day it’s not worth it. I refuse to get gray hairs or wrinkles before my time. You can introduce something to someone and if they don’t get it all you can do is keep praying and loving them, just like you said.
